Denver, CO: To hold corporate lawbreakers accountable, workers must feel safe coming forward to report abuse. That’s why, for years, Towards Justice has told thousands of workers that they can report wage theft and labor violations to the Colorado Department of Labor without fear their information would be handed over to ICE. That’s what Colorado law says, and it’s what Governor Polis has said is Colorado’s policy.
We are deeply disappointed by Governor Polis’s apparent decision to comply with an ICE subpoena by turning over CDLE records to support the Trump Administration’s cruel immigration enforcement regime. This doesn’t keep anyone safe — it just empowers corporations that exploit workers and silences the people trying to hold them accountable.
That’s bad for workers, bad for law-abiding businesses, and bad for Colorado. We’re calling on Governor Polis to change course and comply with the laws he signed. The Governor should refuse to support Trump’s efforts to weaponize immigration laws in support of corporate lawbreakers.
